If you’re driving a Singapore-registered vehicle into Malaysia, you’ll need to apply for a Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP). The process can sometimes be slow or glitchy, but with the right documents prepared, it’s straightforward.
Before You Start Applying VEP- Documents Checklist
Prepare clear scans/photos (PDF or JPG) of the following:
Owner/driver ID (NRIC/FIN + passport biodata page, as applicable)
Vehicle registration details (LTA vehicle info / log card)
Valid motor insurance with Malaysia coverage
Authorisation letter (if the vehicle is under a company/fleet, or if you are helping another owner register)
Must include the vehicle number, make, and model
Must be signed by a director listed in ACRA
Clarity and legibility matter — unclear uploads can delay approval.
Upload a photo of your installed tag and number plate.
If you get an error: ensure the photo clearly shows the plate and tag, and meets file size limits. Compress the image if needed.
Once successful, you’ll receive an activation email.
Congratulations — your vehicle is now ready to enter Malaysia without worry.
Enforcement & Penalties
From 1 July 2025, vehicles entering Malaysia without an activated VEP-RFID tag will face a RM300 fine.
